Do you have a new crack on your beautiful tiles? When this happens, the aesthetics of your tiling can be completely ruined. Many people mistake cracked tile to be a huge fix-up job when in reality it’s quite simple.
To begin removing the cracked tile, you will have to start by scraping out the grout from around the joint around the tile with a grout saw. Next you will have to break up the tile with a hammer and a cold chisel so the pieces can be removed and you can access under the edge of remaining pieces, then pry them up with a stiff putty knife.
After you remove the tile pieces, use an old chisel, putty knife, or a paint scraper to scrape out the old adhesive. This will create a relatively smooth, level surface for the new tile.
Spread a light coat of tile adhesive to the back of the replacement tile. Be sure to scrape off the adhesive that’s within ¼ inch of the perimeter so that it won’t fill out the grout joint. Press the tile firmly into place so that it’s flush with the surrounding tiles. Let the adhesive set according to the manufacturer’s settings, which is usually overnight.
Since it’s a smaller area, grout and seal the joints using a fingertip or squeegee to apply the grout. Use sanded grout for floor tiles or tiles with wide joints and un-sanded grout for wall tiles.
Hope this little tips help. As usual, this is just a basic guideline. Be sure to consult a professional for any questions or concerns. Do some more research on your project if you are insistent upon doing it yourself. Good luck in restoring your beautiful tiles, and good luck!
